Your journey can begin from Kathmandu, either crossing the Kerung Border into Tibet or by flying directly to Lhasa. The Himalayan Overland Tour is a remarkable way to experience the ancient landscapes, rich culture, and monumental beauty of Tibet.

Package plans (Itinerary)

1Day 01-Kathmandu (1300) -Kerung Border (145 Km) 06-07 hours' drive
Early in the morning, we embark on a scenic drive to the Kerung Border, which serves as the Nepal-Tibet gateway. The journey takes us through picturesque Nepalese countryside, offering stunning views along the way. After completing the necessary border formalities at Nepalese immigration, we’ll either enjoy an adventurous uphill drive by bus and jeep (typically), or, in the event of a landslide, undertake a two-hour hike uphill to reach Chinese immigration. Once we’ve cleared customs, we’ll check in to our accommodation or continue our drive to Kerung. You’ll spend the night at a guest house in Kerung, resting and preparing for the adventures that lie ahead.
2Day 02-Drive from Kerong to Xegar (4350M), 265KM, 07-08 hours.
We begin our drive very early in the morning, journeying to the highest plateau in the world. The landscape unfolds around us, showcasing the unique terrain that gives you a true sense of being on the "roof of the world." As we cross high passes, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the stunning Paikutso Lake. Our route also offers a magnificent glimpse of Mt. Everest (8,848m) as we pass through Tingri. This is a perfect opportunity for unforgettable photos and moments of awe. After a day filled with stunning vistas, we’ll settle in for the night at a guest house.
3Day 03-Drive from Xegar to Sigatse (3900m), 240 km, 6-8 hours.
With incredible views of the Himalayas, we drive through the highest point, Gyatchu La Pass (5,220m), on our route to Lhasa via Latse. The scenery here is nothing short of spectacular, offering panoramic vistas that highlight the majestic peaks surrounding us. After a day of breathtaking exploration, we will spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Shigatse, where you can unwind and reflect on the stunning landscapes you've encountered.
4Day 04-Drive from Sigatse to Gyantse (3,950M), 90KM, 2 hours
Wake up early to visit the Panchen Lama’s Tashilumpu Monastery, a significant cultural site. After exploring the monastery, we’ll drive through Tibet’s largest agricultural fields toward Gyantse. Here, we’ll visit the impressive Kumbum Stupa and Palkor Monastery, renowned for their beautiful architecture and rich history. After a day filled with exploration, we’ll stay overnight at a comfortable hotel in Gyantse.
5Day 05-Drive from Gyantse to Lhasa (3650M), 261 KM
Today, we embark on a full-day drive, taking in the stunning views of the turquoise Yamdrok Lake. We’ll cross the picturesque Kampa La Pass (4,794m), offering breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding mountains. As we continue, we’ll follow the Brahmaputra River (Yarlung Tsangpo) until we reach Lhasa. After a day of unforgettable scenery, we’ll check into our hotel in Lhasa for an overnight stay.
6Day 06-07-In Lhasa with sightseeing tour at places of great interest.
Today, enjoy a guided tour of Lhasa's most significant sites, starting with a short drive to Drepung Monastery, once the residence of high priests and Dalai Lamas before the Potala Palace was built. Explore the main prayer halls, where you’ll witness monks in deep meditation. Next, head to Sera Monastery, famous for its lively debates among young monks, which enhance their understanding and knowledge as they strive for priesthood. After this enlightening visit, take a break for lunch at a local Tibetan or Chinese restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the "Heavenly Realm." Here, you can explore the main interior rooms of great significance, learning about its history as the residence of the Dalai Lamas and its transformation into a museum. Conclude the day at the bustling Barkhor Market Square, where you can visit the historic Jokhang Temple, one of Tibet’s oldest religious sites. Enjoy some free time to explore the market before dinner, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Lhasa on your final evening.
7Day 08-Drive to Gondor Airport and fly to Kathmandu - 1 hr: 15 mins flights.
Depending on your flight time, your Tibetan guide will transfer you to Gonggar Airport, about an hour's drive from Lhasa. After checking in, board your Air China flight for a scenic journey back to Kathmandu. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks, including a close glimpse of Mt. Everest, as you soar above the majestic landscape. Upon landing at Kathmandu airport, you'll be greeted and transferred back to your hotel. The afternoon is free for you to relax or explore the city at your leisure, taking in the vibrant atmosphere and rich culture of Kathmandu before concluding your journey.
