Introduction:

Manaslu Circuit Trekking** with Nepal High Point takes you through the stunning, remote areas of the Far North Mid-West Himalaya. This adventure showcases some of Nepal's most scenic and less-traveled routes, where the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region shine.

Opened to trekkers only in the last three decades, the Manaslu Circuit has gained popularity for its breathtaking views and unique experiences. Trekking around the Manaslu massif offers constant vistas of snow-capped peaks, including Manaslu itself, Ganesh Himal, and the Annapurna range.

The name "Manaslu" comes from the Sanskrit word "Manas," meaning "soul," reflecting its significance in Hindu culture, similar to the holy lake Manasarovar in Tibet near Mount Kailash. At 8,163 meters (26,781 feet), Mount Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world. It was first climbed by a Japanese expedition on May 9, 1956, and was initially a restricted area due to its proximity to the Tibetan border.

The trek is a captivating journey through dramatic landscapes and scenic valleys, enriched by the deep-rooted Buddhist culture of the local villages. From the lush, green forests of tall pines and rhododendrons to the high-altitude Larke-La Pass (5,160 meters / 16,929 feet), you'll experience a diverse range of environments.

The adventure concludes in Dharapani village, a gateway to the Annapurna Circuit, from where you'll travel back to Kathmandu, reflecting on a memorable trek that combines stunning mountain scenery with the cultural richness of the region.

Here, nestled beside the raging river, you’ll be ready to start your trek.

4Day 04-Trek to Machhe-Khola 869 m - 05 hrs.

From Soti-Khola, the trek progresses through warmer foothills and follows the Buri-Gandaki River upstream. The route then ascends into a forested gorge, transitioning to cooler areas. After a moderate four to five-hour walk, you arrive at Machha-Khola, a moderately sized village known for its fishing streams, as "Machha" means fish and "Khola" means stream in the local dialect. This village provides a quaint and suitable spot for an overnight stop.

5Day 05-Trek to Jagat 1,340 m- 06 hrs.

From Machha-Khola, the trek continues upstream along the Buri-Gandaki River. The morning walk takes you to Khorla-Beshi, followed by a winding path towards Tatopani, renowned for its natural hot springs—Tatopani translates to "hot water." If time allows, you can enjoy a rejuvenating bath in the warm waters before resuming your trek. After relaxing at Tatopani, the trail climbs towards Jagat village for an overnight stop. Jagat is a charming and sizable village with numerous shops and well-stocked stores, providing a comfortable and simple lodging for the night.

6Day 06-Trek to Dyang 1,860 m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight stay in Jagat village, the trek continues upward, passing through rural farm villages. The trail descends to cross a bridge leading to Nugget, and then further to Philip, one of the larger villages in this remote farming region, characterized by its scattered houses. From Philip, the route meanders around farm terraces adorned with golden fields of wheat and barley. The climb ascends above a rocky ridge through a bamboo forest, eventually leading to Deng village for an overnight stop. Deng, a quaint village nestled in the high-altitude landscape, provides a serene setting for the night.

7Day 07-Trek to Namrung 2,630 m - 05 hrs.

In the morning, the trek from Dyang begins with a gradual ascent into cooler high-altitude regions. The path descends slightly to a riverside settlement known as Bihi Bazaar, a small village nestled by the river. From Bihi, the route continues alongside the Burigandaki River, crossing it to enter a region characterized by small farm villages and terraced fields where barley, wheat, and millets are cultivated. As you progress, you'll reach the village of Namrung, which offers the first close-up views of the majestic North Face of Mt. Manaslu and its surrounding peaks. This village marks the beginning of a noticeable shift in cultural influence, reflecting a stronger Tibetan presence and the Buddhist traditions associated with the high Manaslu valley. The trek through this region reveals a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, enriched by the traditional lifestyles of the local communities.

8Day 08-Trek to Lo-Gaon 3,180 m - 05 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight stay in Namrung, your trek continues through expansive farm fields and yak herder shelters. The high Manaslu valley is characterized by its farming communities, who engage in agriculture during the summer months. In winter, many of the younger residents travel to larger cities in Nepal and India for trade and to avoid the harsh cold. As you advance, the trail leads to Lo-Gaon, a picturesque village and an excellent spot for an overnight stop. Lo-Gaon is renowned for its stunning views of the towering North Face of Manaslu. In Lo, you can explore the local monastery, and admire the numerous chortens and mani walls that dot the area. From Lo, you'll also enjoy vistas of Ganesh Himal to the east, adding to the village's charm and significance in the Manaslu region.

9Day 09-Trek to Sama- Gaon 3,520 m - 05 hrs.

From Lo-Gaon, the walk becomes more manageable as you gain altitude gradually. The trail meanders with constant views of the surrounding mountains, including Peak 29. After a couple of hours of steady climbing, you'll reach Shala village. This spot offers excellent views of Phungi, Manaslu, and Himal Chuli. Continuing your trek for a few more hours, you'll arrive at Sama-Gaon village, one of the largest settlements in the high Manaslu Valley. Sama-Gaon provides spectacular views of Mount Manaslu and is a vibrant hub for local life. The villagers, primarily farmers, cultivate buckwheat, barley, potatoes, and other high-altitude vegetables in this rugged terrain. This area is not only significant for its natural beauty but also for its rich cultural and agricultural heritage.

10Day 10-At Sama-Gaon with an est day for acclimatization and hike.

Enjoy a well-deserved rest day in Sama Gaon, which offers a perfect opportunity for acclimatization before you head higher towards Larke La. Spend your day exploring this charming village, immersing yourself in its traditional culture, and taking in the stunning mountain views. Sama Gaon is an excellent base for acclimatization with various short hikes and excursions available. You can explore the surrounding areas, such as the local gompa (monastery), or venture to higher vantage points to witness breathtaking views of the nearby peaks. This day not only helps your body adjust to the altitude but also enriches your experience of the local culture and stunning natural beauty.

11Day 11-Trek to Samdo 3,875m - 05 hrs.

After a refreshing rest at Sama Gaon, the trek continues with a morning climb towards Samdo village. The ascent, although not overly long, can be challenging due to the high altitude and dry air, which may slow your pace. Upon reaching Samdo, the last village before the base of Larke La Pass, you will experience the strong Tibetan influence prevalent in this area due to its proximity to the Tibet border. Despite the decline in trade, some still persists across the border. Samdo offers a unique glimpse into traditional Tibetan life and serves as a perfect stop for an overnight stay before the final push to Larke La.

12Day 12-Trek to Dharmasala at the base of Larke-La pass 4,460 m- 04 hrs.

From Samdo, the trek continues into more barren and rugged terrain. The adventure begins with crossing the Gyala Khola (river) and ascending to a ridge where you'll find the ruins of an old village called Larke Bazaar. This village, once a bustling trade hub with Tibet through the nearby Gya La Pass, has seen a decline in trade over the years, though some still occurs. The trek then proceeds towards the Larke Glacier, navigating through the rugged landscape until reaching Duwang. Here, you'll find a lodge for an overnight stay, providing a comfortable resting spot amidst the stark and dramatic scenery.

13Day 13-Cross Larke-La Pass 5,160 m /16,929 ft and walk to Bhimthang 3,590 m - 08 hrs.

Starting early in the morning, the trek leads you towards the top of Larke-La Pass, situated at an altitude of 5,160 meters. The journey begins with a gradual winding ascent, which eventually becomes a steep climb to reach the highest point of the adventure. At the summit, you'll be greeted by a stunning array of colorful Buddhist prayer flags and stone piles, creating a vibrant and spiritual atmosphere. From Larke-La, you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding peaks, including Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II. After savoring the moment at the pass, the trek continues with a long descent over snow and scree, leading you to the valley of Larcia. The walk then progresses over moraine terrain to reach Tambuche, situated at 3,900 meters. From Tambuche, you will proceed to Bhimthang, a beautiful valley with several well-maintained lodges offering a comfortable overnight stop amidst picturesque surroundings.

14Day 14-Trek to Gho 2,760 m - 05 hrs.

From Bhimthang, the remainder of the journey becomes more straightforward, featuring predominantly downhill walks with occasional short climbs as you make your way towards Gho and Dharapani villages. The morning begins with views of the peaks as you embark on a gradual descent through thick alpine woodland. As you traverse this beautiful forested terrain, you will arrive at a small clearing amid the woods at Gho, where you’ll stop for the night. Gho, a small summer pasture and temporary settlement for cattle and yak herders, provides a peaceful resting spot. This area, frequented by trekkers, has a few lodges to accommodate your needs, offering a comfortable place to stay and enjoy the serene surroundings.

15Day 15-Trek to Dharapani 1,963 m -05 hrs.

From Gho, the trek descends into the valley of Burdin Khola, situated at the base of the western side of Manaslu. From a ridge here, you can enjoy excellent views of Manaslu to the southeast and Annapurna II to the southwest. The route crosses Dudh Khola and continues down a narrow valley through a forested area, leading to a tranquil overnight stop surrounded by nature after approximately five hours of walking. The next day, the trail descends further through the forest, passing small summer settlements, and then climbs over terraced fields to reach Karche La. From there, the path descends to the Marysangdi River. Following a few more hours of walking, you will reach Tilje village by following the Dudh (milky) River downstream, passing several villages, including Thonje. From Tilje, the journey involves a final hour-long climb over a bridge, which leads you to join the main Annapurna Circuit trail in Dharapani village. Dharapani, a large and lively village, offers a stark contrast to the wilderness you've experienced. Here, you can celebrate the end of your trek with a refreshing beer and enjoy a hot shower at a local lodge.

16Day 16-Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel - 06 hrs.

With unforgettable memories from the high mountains and valleys of Manaslu and Manang, your morning drive back to Kathmandu begins.
