Khopra Danda (Ridge) Trek, also known as Khayer Lake Trekking, is a popular destination in the Annapurna region. This trek offers spectacular views of the Himalayas, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fang, and Nilgiri, and is suitable for trekkers of all levels. The adventure begins with a visit to Kathmandu's world heritage sites before heading to a route that winds through lush pine, oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forests. Along the way, you'll experience stunning vistas and journey through charming Magar, Gurung, Kami, Damai, and Kshetri villages, each with beautifully terraced farmlands.

Seasons: The Khopra Danda Trek is best undertaken during the months of March to May and October to December. From March to May, the trek benefits from blooming wildflowers and clear mornings, making it a great time for breathtaking views and pleasant walking conditions. October to December offers another prime window for clear mountain vistas, though mornings and nights can be quite cold depending on the altitude. Avoid the monsoon season from June to August, as it brings heavy rains and potentially challenging trekking conditions.

1Day 01-Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our team and transferred to your hotel. After checking into your room and refreshing yourself, you will receive a detailed briefing about your trek along with other essential information to ensure you're well-prepared for the adventure ahead.

2Day 02-Kathmandu sightseeing world heritage site

During your stay in Kathmandu, you will have the opportunity to explore the valley's rich cultural heritage through visits to several world heritage sites and significant landmarks. Begin with Pashupatinath, a revered Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva, known for its intricate architecture and sacred rituals. Next, visit Baudanath Stupa, one of the largest and most important stupas in Nepal, a focal point for Tibetan Buddhism. Continue to Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, perched on a hilltop offering panoramic views of the valley and a vibrant atmosphere with its resident monkeys. Finally, explore Patan Durbar Square, renowned for its stunning collection of ancient palaces, temples, and courtyards, showcasing the artistic and architectural grandeur of the Malla period.

3Day 03-Drive from kathmandu to Pokhara 860 m -06 hrs overland ride.

The morning after an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive of 5 to 6 hours to Pokhara, a picturesque city in Nepal's Mid-Western region. Known for its warmer climate, Pokhara offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna Himalaya, which are beautifully reflected in the serene Begnas and Phewa Lakes. Upon arrival in Pokhara, transfer to a comfortable hotel located by the lakeside of Phewa Lake. The area around the lake is bustling with shops, restaurants, and hotels, perfect for a leisurely stroll. For those interested, a 30-minute scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara is available for an additional cost, offering a bird’s-eye view of the stunning landscapes.

4Day 04-Drive to Nayapul or beyond and trek to Ulleri 1,960 m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight stay in Pokhara, you'll start the day with a short drive to the trek's starting point at Nayapul, or further to Bhirethati village, situated by the Modi River. The trek begins with a gradual ascent through charming farm villages, passing by cascading waterfalls and entering lush forests. The trail continues with a climb to Tirkhedhunga, a picturesque village near beautiful waterfalls. From Tirkhedhunga, the journey involves a challenging uphill walk on stone-paved steps, leading you to the high ridge of Ulleri village for an overnight stop. Ulleri, a sizable Gurung and Magar village, offers stunning views of the rolling hills and the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna South, Huin Chuli, and the top of Machhapuchare Himal.

5Day 05-Trek to Ghorepani 2,880 m - 05 hrs.

From Ulleri, you'll start your morning with a pleasant walk along a gentle path through a forest of oaks, pines, and rhododendrons. The trail gradually gains altitude as you make your way to Ghorepani village. Ghorepani offers stunning views of the majestic Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Vara-Shikar (also known as Annapurna Fang). The village, characterized by its blue-painted houses, serves as a perfect base for the trek. It's populated by the Poon people of the Magar ethnic tribe and offers comfortable lodges for your stay, situated at the foot of Poon Hill.

6Day 06-Trek from Ghorepani to Upper Chistibung

From Ghorepani, the trek to Upper Chistibung unfolds through a serene and picturesque landscape. Setting out early in the morning, you’ll traverse a gently ascending trail that gradually climbs out of Ghorepani. The path meanders through lush forests of rhododendron, pine, and oak, providing a cool and shaded hiking experience. As you ascend, the dense woodland gives way to open meadows, offering occasional glimpses of the majestic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The trek leads you through tranquil pastures and offers a chance to experience the region's natural beauty up close. 7Day 07-Trek to Upper Chistibung to Khopra Danda

Leaving Upper Chistibung, the trek to Khopra Danda begins with a scenic ascent through rolling hills and expansive meadows. The trail gradually climbs through a landscape dotted with wildflowers and sparse rhododendron forests, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. As you gain altitude, the vistas of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges become even more spectacular. The path to Khopra Danda is marked by its rugged beauty and the serene environment that surrounds it. Khopra Danda, situated at a higher elevation, provides a breathtaking vantage point for observing the Himalayan panorama, including the majestic peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and the Nilgiri ranges. 8Day 08-Rest day in Khopra danda, Day trip to Khayer lake (4660m)

On your rest day at Khopra Danda, you’ll embark on a day trip to the serene Khayer Lake, situated at an impressive altitude of 4,660 meters. The journey to the lake involves a challenging yet rewarding trek through rugged terrain, with the trail offering sweeping views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. As you ascend, the landscape transforms, with alpine meadows giving way to rocky outcrops and high-altitude flora. Upon reaching Khayer Lake, you’ll be greeted by its tranquil, turquoise waters set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. The lake, considered sacred by local communities, provides a serene and picturesque environment for contemplation. 9Day 09-Trek from Khopra danda to Tatopani (1250m)

From Khopra Danda, the trek descends to Tatopani, located at 1,250 meters. The journey begins with a steep descent through lush, forested terrain, offering a stark contrast to the high-altitude landscapes of Khopra. As you traverse through dense forests of rhododendron and oak, you’ll follow a trail that gradually leads you down to the warm, lower altitudes. The path meanders through charming villages and terraced fields, providing glimpses of rural life and local culture. Upon reaching Tatopani, known for its natural hot springs, you’ll have the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in the soothing, mineral-rich waters. The soothing heat of the springs is a perfect remedy for the tired muscles after the long trek, making it a rewarding end to your day’s journey.

10Day 10-Drive from Tatopani to Pokhara.

In the morning, you'll be greeted by fantastic views of the Annapurna range, including a breathtaking sunrise that illuminates the peaks. After enjoying your final breakfast on the high hills, you'll complete your adventure with a trek to Birethanti. From there, a scenic drive will take you back to the picturesque city of Pokhara, nestled beside the tranquil Phewa Lake. This charming city, known for its serene beauty and vibrant atmosphere, provides a perfect conclusion to your memorable and exciting short adventure.

11Day 11-Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

After an early breakfast, you'll embark on an interesting drive back to Kathmandu. The journey from Pokhara will take you through picturesque farm villages and towns, passing through Mugling Bazaar and following the Trisuli River for a while. As you wind your way uphill, you'll eventually reach the Kathmandu Valley, where you'll be transferred back to your hotel. This drive offers a scenic and reflective end to your adventure, providing a chance to enjoy the changing landscapes before returning to the bustling capital city.

12Day 12-Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.

On the last day of your Himalayan adventure, after an unforgettable experience and cherished memories from the Ghorepani and Poon Hill trek, you'll check out of your hotel according to your flight schedule. Our staff will transfer you to Kathmandu International Airport for your departure, whether you're heading home or to your next destination. Safe travels and best wishes as you continue your journey!
