Early in the morning, your Nepal High Point guide and staff will pick you up from your hotel for a short drive to Kathmandu Domestic Airport. After completing security formalities, you will board a small aircraft (Dornier, Twin Otter, or similar) for a scenic flight eastward, offering stunning views of the Himalayan range, including Mt. Everest. The flight will land at Lukla’s Tenzing-Hillary Airport, named in honor of the legendary mountaineers.
After a refreshing break, you will begin your trek with a gradual walk, featuring some downhill sections and short ascents, to your first overnight stop in Phakding village. This charming Sherpa village is located near the Dudh-Kosi River and offers a welcoming start to your adventure.
A leisurely morning walk will take you to the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park, where you'll have a chance to refresh before crossing a bridge to reach Jorsalle, the last village before Namche Bazaar. Jorsalle is a possible lunch stop. From there, you'll follow a trail along the riverbed through a forested area before climbing up from the final high bridge to reach the vibrant and colorful Namche Bazaar.
The trek involves a winding uphill climb with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Upon arriving in Namche, you'll check into a cozy lodge and have time to explore the many well-stocked shops. Namche Bazaar, the bustling hub of the Khumbu region, is known for its lively atmosphere and hosts a colorful and busy market every Saturday.
You'll have a rest day in Namche for acclimatization before venturing to higher altitudes. This day provides excellent opportunities for short walks and hikes to enjoy stunning views of the high peaks. A notable option is a hike to the Everest View Hotel, which takes approximately four hours round-trip. This trek offers a spectacular panorama of the surrounding mountains, including Everest and the magnificent Ama Dablam.
While in Namche, you can also visit the informative museum, which offers insights into the culture and lifestyle of the Khumbu Sherpas, local flora and fauna, and the history of mountaineering expeditions. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax and explore the town at your own pace.
After a pleasant time in Namche, your morning walk will begin with a short climb followed by a traverse on a wide trail with stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and an array of other peaks. The route then descends through woodlands towards the Imja Tse River, reaching the small settlement of Phunki Tenga, where you might enjoy a lunch break in the midst of the forest.
In the afternoon, you'll climb through forested areas with views of Kangtenga, Tharmasarku, and other peaks, eventually arriving at the open plateau of Thyangboche. Here, you'll find the beautiful and colorful Buddhist monastery. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the interior, where you can observe monks and priests engaged in religious ceremonies and prayers.
Thyangboche is a scenic spot surrounded by high peaks, including Everest and the striking Ama Dablam, and is nestled amidst a forest of rhododendrons, magnolias, oaks, junipers, birches, and firs. It’s an ideal location for an overnight stay. If you’re visiting in October or November, you might be fortunate enough to witness the vibrant Mani Rimdu festival, featuring traditional mask dances performed by the monastery monks.
In the morning, after enjoying the views of the surrounding peaks, you will begin your descent towards Deoboche, traversing through lush, green forested areas. Continuing on, you will reach the Imja Tse River and cross it via a steel bridge. Beyond the bridge, the landscape transitions into a dry and arid region as you make your way to Pangboche, the last permanent village on the Everest Base Camp route. Pangboche offers several well-equipped lodges to meet the needs of travelers and trekkers.
From Pangboche, your trek continues with a series of ups and downs, leading you to a river. You will then embark on the final climb of the day, which takes about an hour, to reach the scenic Imja Tse Valley at Dingboche. Here, you’ll be rewarded with impressive views of the north side of Ama Dablam and, towards the east, Island Peak.
After a well-deserved rest day in Dingboche, you will start your morning with a short climb to a ridge top marked by Buddhist prayer flags and monuments, offering views of the surrounding high peaks. You will then follow a gradual path along the winding trail above the Pheriche Valley, with vistas of Cholatse and Taboche peaks.
Your route leads to Thugla, where the massive Khumbu Glacier melts into a raging river. After crossing a short bridge, you'll climb up to Thugla, which serves as a potential lunch stop and rest point. Following your break, you'll continue your ascent towards Lobuche.
The trail includes a slow climb to a ridge adorned with a memorial for mountaineers who have perished while climbing in the Khumbu region and around Everest. From this ridge, the walk continues with a gradual ascent to reach Lobuche, situated at the edge of a broad valley beneath the peaks of Lobuche East and West.
Today's adventure leads you to the iconic Everest Base Camp. The morning trek begins with a flat walk through the valley, followed by a gradual climb that then steepens as you ascend a ridge overlooking the Khumbu Glacier. The path continues over rocky moraines and ice, leading to the scenic flatlands of Gorakshep, situated at the base of Kalapathar and Mt. Pumori. You will take a brief rest at Gorakshep before continuing your journey.
From Gorakshep, you will head further east to reach the highlight of your trek: Everest Base Camp. Here, you'll be treated to magnificent views of the Khumbu Icefall, glaciers, and the towering peaks of Nuptse, Everest, and Lhotse. During the high mountaineering season of April to May, this grand location is often bustling with tents from various expeditions.
After spending time at this remarkable destination, you will return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay. The next phase of your adventure will include heading back downhill to Lukla, with an additional climb to Kalapathar planned for the return journey.
Early in the morning, before breakfast, you will undertake a climb to the top of a rocky hill at 5,545 meters, the highest point of your adventure. From this vantage, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding giant peaks, including close-up views of Everest and Mt. Pumori. After savoring this unforgettable moment, you will descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast.
Following your meal, you will continue your trek down to the Pheriche Valley, where you will spend the night in one of its charming lodges. Pheriche, situated in a scenic valley near Dingboche, is also home to the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), which provides valuable support and services in the region.
From Pheriche, you'll embark on an easy walk along near-flat ground, gradually descending towards Pangboche village. This scenic trek allows you to savor the memories of your adventure at Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar, without the concern of high altitude sickness as you lose elevation with each hour of walking.
From Pangboche, you will continue with a climb to the picturesque Thyangboche, renowned for its vibrant monastery and beautiful surroundings. The trail then leads you back into lush woodlands. Enjoy a delightful walk with both descents and ascents along this scenic route, eventually reaching Namche Bazaar for your final night in the Khumbu region before heading to Lukla.
On the final day of your adventure, you'll embark on a long trek back to Lukla. The journey begins with a descent to the river valley and then through the entrance and exit of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo village. From Monjo, you will continue your walk past Phakding, eventually tackling the last short climb to reach Lukla. This will be your final overnight stay before your flight back to Kathmandu.
After an early breakfast, you will take a short, scenic flight back to Kathmandu, departing from Lukla in the early morning. The flight offers stunning panoramic views of the mountains, making it a memorable conclusion to your adventure. Upon landing at Kathmandu Airport, you will be transferred back to your respective hotels with a short drive.
